Consider a penny.

If I were to take a single penny and throw it at a wall (rude, I know, but go with me here), it wouldn’t really do much damage.  It wouldn’t make much of an impact.

However, if I took 100 pennies and put them in a sock (old school) and threw it at the wall, the damage would be much more noticeable.

Further still, 1,000 pennies would probably go straight through the wall.  Continue reading

By Chris Denning

These past few weeks we’ve been talking about the hope that is Jesus.  The hope that was foretold hundreds of years before His birth.  The hope that we can experience right now, in our current circumstances.

But what about tomorrow?  What about in the days to come?  Will hope be?

In short: Absolutely.

The truth is that Jesus is the same hope yesterday, today and forevermore (Hebrews 13:8).  Forevermore.  That truth is not conditional, meaning no matter what happens, no matter what comes, Jesus will ALWAYS be hope.

What if we’re in a tough situation, or walking through a really nasty valley currently?

What’s down the road for us?

Hope is one thing that every person on Earth wants.  I doubt there is anyone who’s ever lived who didn’t desire hope.

Hope for love.

Hope for their family.

Hope for their career.

Hope for the world.

Hope for their life.

Hope is something or someone to have confidence in/on.  Hope is a solution to trust in.  Hope is a source that sustains us.

Simply put, what we place our hope in will define our lives.

I don’t know about you, but if I’m real quiet and close my eyes, I can almost smell the spruce tree, nutmeg & peppermint mochas.  That means one thing: IT’S ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! (21 days to be exact.)

When I think about Christmas and what it’s really all about, one word comes to mind: Hope. Christmas is a time where we celebrate the hope that came when Jesus was born. We find hope in many places, but only Jesus provides real, lasting, and life-changing hope.

In our new series Hope., we’re going to be taking a look at how Jesus has ALWAYS been hope, is our hope today, and will be the hope of the world for all of time!

Weekend Preview | Grattitude: Part 2 – Show It

By Chris Denning

This weekend, we’re finishing a series called Grattitude, which is all about learning how to respond graciously in our lives by choosing to have an attitude of gratitude.

Last weekend was all about verbalizing our gratitude by expressing our gratitude to God and others (click here to check out the #GrATTITUDE Challenge on Facebook).  While important, saying it (that is our gratitude) is only half the solution; we must also learn to show it!

Like Matt said last week, Gratitude is never silent. Likewise, Gratitude is never invisible. For gratitude to truly exist, it must be expressed and experienced, or else it just becomes good intentions and platitudes.

We’re only a few weeks away from incessant Christmas music on the radio and A Christmas Story being replayed a million times (thanks TNT). However, before we get to the jolliest time of the year, we’ve got the culinary marathon that is Thanksgiving to run first.

Of course we’ll take some time next week to remember the things we’re thankful for, but do we ever consider expressing this thankfulness the other 364 days of the year?

By Chris Denning

Over the past few weeks at Journey, we’ve talked about our need for margin in our life & in our relationships.  This weekend, we’re focusing on something that you might not be completely comfortable with: margin in our finances.

You might be thinking, “what can a CHURCH teach ME about having margin in MY finances?”

And to that, I would respond . . . Touché.
